We have been reading the Whales' Song by Dylan Sheldon. Spend a bit of time reading our description of the whales or the scene by the edge of the sea. I think you will agree with me, the children have written some beautiful pieces and I am very proud of them! Miss W.
Silently, the whales lay calmly above the dark, blue sea. Waving their tail peacefully like a windmill. Jumping over the sea like a skipping stone, while singing their beautiful lullaby.
Their skin is a slippery as an ice rink. The creatures head is as hard as a hammer as it smashes through the waves. The huge tail is like an axe chopping down on the water.
The whales sound makes me feel like heven. When I see them it feels like I am going to faint. When I see the whales it makes me feel like I am dreaming.

The fat whales skin was as slimy as a slug. The leaping whales sang like opera buzzing around in the water. Their strong fins rolled up and down in the drowsy water, like a canoe.
The large fish shaped sea mammal swam like a boat. The colour of the whale was navy blue and big as five busses.
It made me feel happy because they soared.
AH and LR (Year 5)
The giant creature is as blue as the sky on a hot summers day. Its skin is as slippery as thin shiny black ice. The whale moves gracefully in the deep calm beautiful sea. The lovely blue mammal sounds like an opera singer. He calmly falls asleep in the red hot sunset.
I am amazed at all the spinning in the air and shocked at how big they are.
LH and MS (year 5)
The whales always sing calmly at night and jump onto moonlight. Their body is as smooth as ice cream and they swim graceful. At morning they strock back under the deep blue sea with their strong fins. Their bones are as hard as steel. Their heads are as hard as bulldozers. They camoflage in the deep sea.
When I look they jump up into the air like they are flying.
TC (Year 5)
The sea glistened in the dime light of the slowly dying sun. Lily leaned steadily over the rock to watch the amazing whales sing to her. The sky was like a chocolate bar being melted. The whales lept gracfully through the choppy sea. The rock glowed radiantly in the light. The clouds were like shadows creeping slowly up on the whales. Lily's hear was like a big bush witch hadn't been looked after. The sun dipped down slowly and gently to let the moon rise. The sky was as misty as smoke from a fire burning down a house. The sea, slowly but surely, going flat let the whales go through it without them getting hurt.
She felt an urge to cry as the beautiful whales sang their song as they left.
RMP (Year 5)
The whales make me feel fresh and happy they also spring to life.
CS and LB (Year 5)
The whale shines in the moonlight full of excitement. It's enormous tail flapped in the air like an elegant fan. As it swam gracefully across the water like a waterski. It sounds like a beautiful opera singer echoing in the distance. The lazy blue whale camoflages in the deep blue sea. Whales make me happy because maybe they'll give me a gift too. You never know what is going to happen next, the whales could call your name too.
EP and AB (year 5)
The collosal whale leaps gracefully in the air. The gigantic chubby whale gazes at the moon as he sings deafening in the moonlight. The immense whale sang high pitched while twirling over the moon like a ballerina. The massive tail slapped on the sea.
BC (Year 5)
He moves calmly across the sea while the seagulls fly above him. The whale leaps quickly over the sea and then into it. His body glides across like he's in an icerink and is as smooth as ice cream. His bones are as hard as steel. His head as hard as a bulldozer. He camoflages in the deep sea. As I look at the whale I relax, watching them swim.
They sound like babies screaming and donkeys going ee orrr. When the wind comes it's noise echoes and glows through the air.
LC (Year 5)
He swims dreamily through the ocean as silent as a snail. His eyes gleaming in the nice bright surf. The amazing high pitched voice is a beautiful as a bird, whispering through the misty sky.
BB (Year 5)
Moonlight shimmers over the whooshing waving sea. Whales jumping gracefully, splashing silently, hiding behind the shiny waves. Water gushes up against the rocks, making them glisten in the moonlight. Soft glowing skin gently shimmers. Magnificent shapes spin out of the water, jumping, turning, diving into the moon.
My heart pounds at the beautiful sight. I smile as the water is thrown into my face. I feel so special. It is so magnificent!
LR (year 5)
The lazy blue whale camoflages in the deep, dark, navy blue ocean. As the fat blue creature swims through the moonlight his gigantic tale swishes through the shining water. It hops out of the water like a leaping frog. The great big mammal skims into the deep shadows of the sea. Singing a calm lullaby the gentle whale roams the rough seas. The tired woozy animal swims in the silent ocean sleepily.
My eyes are deceiving me, the sight of the whales is making me feel dizzy. What if it is all a dream?
LK and RJ (Year 5)
The whale shone in the moonlight, moving full of grace. This ginormous creature may only come out when the moon is full and shining. Jumping out of the water like a leaping frog, the magnificent whale acts as if it has been launched from a canon. It is as blue as the deep dark sea. Calmly the whale spins in the air with its magnificent and elegant tale sticking out. All who see this will be hipnotised from this beautiful sight. This beautiful creature leaped over the moon in dead silence of the night.
If you hear this graceful creature, you will feel an angel has called you from heaven. The power of this heavenly creature is breathtaking.
D BL (Year 5)
Its skin was as slippery as an ice skating rink. The whale spun around like a pretty ballerina. It sang like a beautiful choir. It jumped up like a shining star in the sky. Suddenly the whales spray hole sprayed up like a flower raising up. The whales tail swung up in the sky like a little girl getting swung around. The whale makes me feel happy and cheerful.
SM (year 5)
The moon shone like silver in the dark night. The clouds were as dark as the universe. he stars were glittering brightly in the dark night sky. The blue sea splashed heavily against the white shining rocks. The whales lept out monstrously like a firework shooting from the bottom of the deep blue sea. The blue whales spalshed feroushly with their massive tails. The whales scales were glittering like diamonds under the sea. The whales song was so lovely as they were singing a calm lullaby.
I felt shocked as the whales were all leeping together and were singing a beautiful song. It was the best time of my life and it was a wonderful scene with the whales.
TS and GM (Year 5)
The ginormous whale swam as gracefully as a swan. It spun gently through the depths of the ocean like a bicycle wheel. It then spun through the cold breeze and went over the moon.
The beautiful whale sang like a soft gentle lullaby that could send you to sleep and have happy dreams.
The bare ocean suddenly sprang to life with pods of whales leaping out joyfully.
